On Saturday April 2nd, Morningstar Learning Center will hold its annual Spring Swing Wine Tasting and Dance to raise funds for student scholarships and operations. The event will take place at Buck’s T-4 beginning at 7pm. Morningstar is pleased to welcome back Jeni Fleming and her ensemble and Natalie’s Estates Winery. Hors d’oeurves prepared by Bucks T-4 will be served. Net proceeds of the silent auction and raffle will benefit local children.
JENI FLEMING is one of the west’s most sought-after musicians, bringing a breathtaking originality to some of the best music of the American songbook. Jeni defies easy classification simply saying in defense “a good song is a good song.” Jeni will be playing swing dance music for this not-to-be missed event.
Natalie’s Estates Winery, owned and operated in the Willamette Valley of Oregon by part-time Big Sky residents, Boyd and Cassandra Teegarten, is gaining local and national recognition for their outstanding small production wines. Four different pours are included in the $35 (advance purchase) ticket price for the Spring Swing event.
Morningstar Learning Center is the only licensed early education and childcare provider in Big Sky. Since opening the Infant and Toddler care center last year, Morningstar has had a huge influx of new enrollees. Availability of scholarship funds has been critical to Morningstar’s ability to offer early education and childcare services to all families in our community.
The difficult and challenging economic conditions over the past few years have forced Morningstar to delay plans to build its new LEED Certified facility. The need for affordable childcare and early education in Big Sky is increasing, however, and Morningstar has outgrown its current space in Meadow Village. Morningstar will persevere to accomplish its goal of building a new facility in the near future in order to meet the needs of the families of Big Sky.
Come swing into spring and support Morningstar’s efforts to offer affordable early childhood experiences by attending the Spring Swing Wine Tasting and Dance at Buck’s T-4 on Saturday April 2nd, 7pm. Tickets are $35 in advance and are on sale at the Big Sky Owners Association, Meadow Village Country Market and Big Sky Western Bank in Big Sky, or by contacting Morningstar at 406-995-2565 or mlcbigsky@gmail.com. Ticket price includes entry, wine tasting and hors d’oeurves.

We all are familiar with using a limited palette, but do you use one? Do you know how to use a limited palette to create different color combinations? Are you tired of carrying around 15-20 different tubes when you paint plein air? Have you ever wanted to create a certain “mood” in a painting but failed? Do you create a lot of mud? Do you struggle to achieve color harmony? All these problems are addressed in John’s workbook in clear and concise language!
Based on the bestselling “Limited Palatte, Unlimited Color” workbook written by John Pototschnik, the workshop is run by Maggie Shane and Annie McCoy, accomplished landscape (acrylic) and plein air (oil) artists, exhibitors at the Big Sky Artists’ Studio & Gallery and members of the Big Sky Artists Collective.
Each student will receive a copy of “Limited Palette, Unlimited Color” to keep and take home to continue your limited palette journey. We will show you how to use the color wheel and mix your own clean mixtures to successfully create a mood for your paintings.
Each day, we will create a different limited palette color chart and paint a version of a simple landscape using John’s directives. You will then be able to go home and paint more schemes using the book for guidance.
Workshop is open to painters (oil or acrylic) of any level although students must have some basic knowledge of the medium he or she uses. Students will be provided the book ($92 value), color wheel, value scale and canvas papers to complete the daily exercises.
