BIG SKY – Lone Mountain Ranch, in partnership with Tsering’s Fund and the Montana State University Nepalese Student Association, is pleased to announce a fundraiser benefit to support relief efforts in response to the recent devastating earthquakes in Nepal. The Nepali Fundraiser is scheduled for 5 p.m. on June 14 at Lone Mountain Ranch in Big Sky, Montana.
The idea was born after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit the Nepal region on April 25, and a second quake measuring 7.3 struck the area on May 12. The two tremors left more than 8,500 Nepalis dead and destroyed nearly 500,000 homes.
Proceeds raised from the event will support Tsering’s Fund, a nonprofit organization run by Bozeman dentist, Peter Schmieding. Tsering’s Fund uses every penny from donations to help those in need and there is no overhead involved – 100 percent of every donation is put to direct use in Nepal.
“The world may have moved on, but the needs of Nepali people have not,” wrote Schmieding in a recent social media post.
The fundraiser will feature a live and silent auction. Auction items include a 18-day guided trek to the Mount Everest region in Nepal; 10 days of lodging in the Bahamas; and a round of golf at the Big Sky Resort Golf Course, among many others. All proceeds from the auctions, and a portion from ticket sales will support Tsering’s Fund.
Rounding out the evening will be a video and photo slideshow from recent aid efforts presented by Peter Schmieding, as well as live music from Ragged Union and Nepali guitarist Diwas Gurung.
Tickets are $25 per person and include appetizers prepared by the MSU Nepalese Student Association and Lone Mountain Ranch Executive Chef Nick Steen.
For tickets, visit tseringsfund.com or call Lone Mountain Ranch at (406) 995-4644 for more information.
The mission of Tsering’s Fund is to provide help to the needy in Nepal through private donations. Tsering’s Fund was originally established to find deserving children, families and elderly individuals and provide them with educational scholarships, medical care and basic living assistance. All donations are used completely in Nepal to help those in need. Any administrative costs are paid for personally by Tsering’s Fund board members. Due to the recent devastating earthquakes that have affected the region, efforts are now focused on providing food, shelter and supplies to villagers. Tsering’s Fund has a team on the ground helping directly with locals, and 100 percent of donations go to purchasing much-needed supplies.

We all are familiar with using a limited palette, but do you use one? Do you know how to use a limited palette to create different color combinations? Are you tired of carrying around 15-20 different tubes when you paint plein air? Have you ever wanted to create a certain “mood” in a painting but failed? Do you create a lot of mud? Do you struggle to achieve color harmony? All these problems are addressed in John’s workbook in clear and concise language!
Based on the bestselling “Limited Palatte, Unlimited Color” workbook written by John Pototschnik, the workshop is run by Maggie Shane and Annie McCoy, accomplished landscape (acrylic) and plein air (oil) artists, exhibitors at the Big Sky Artists’ Studio & Gallery and members of the Big Sky Artists Collective.
Each student will receive a copy of “Limited Palette, Unlimited Color” to keep and take home to continue your limited palette journey. We will show you how to use the color wheel and mix your own clean mixtures to successfully create a mood for your paintings.
Each day, we will create a different limited palette color chart and paint a version of a simple landscape using John’s directives. You will then be able to go home and paint more schemes using the book for guidance.
Workshop is open to painters (oil or acrylic) of any level although students must have some basic knowledge of the medium he or she uses. Students will be provided the book ($92 value), color wheel, value scale and canvas papers to complete the daily exercises.
