Outdoor derby bout set for Saturday, July 19
GALLATIN ROLLER GIRLZ
BOZEMAN – The Gallatin County Fair is ground zero for the Gallatin Roller Girlz’ next home bout, “Schoolyard Brawl,” on Saturday, July 19. An intraleague bout, the Girlz will split into two teams and fight it out on the pavement for glory and local bragging rights.
Schoolyard Brawl – the Gallatin Roller Girlz’ first ever outdoor bout – is a Fight Club-themed event, held weather permitting on the new asphalt parking lot just east of the Haynes Pavilion in Bozeman.
The Gallatin County Fair is hosting the Girlz as part of the fair activities and there will be no advanced ticket sales for this event, which will feature games and prizes, music by DJ Chachi, and halftime entertainment by the fire spinning troop, Fire In The Attic.
Gallatin Roller Girlz is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The Girlz achieved Women’s Flat Track Derby Association apprenticeship designation in January, and are currently working to achieve full WFTDA membership, allowing for ranking at the national and international level.
Interested in getting involved with the Gallatin Roller Girlz as a league skater or referee? The bi-annual eight-week Fresh Meat (i.e. new skater) Camp enrollment begins on Aug. 4. Learn how to skate, fall and safely manuver on your wheels.
The camp is non-contact and graduates are eligible to continue on to the eight-week Derby 101 Camp, which teaches contact skills and strategy. Skaters must attend the full 16-week combo and graduate successfully for league contact-skater eligibility.
In addition to fair admission, bout attendees will purchase tickets at the gate. Kids 12 and under are free. Tickets will go on sale at the gate at 6 p.m. the day of the bout, which starts at 7 p.m.

We all are familiar with using a limited palette, but do you use one? Do you know how to use a limited palette to create different color combinations? Are you tired of carrying around 15-20 different tubes when you paint plein air? Have you ever wanted to create a certain “mood” in a painting but failed? Do you create a lot of mud? Do you struggle to achieve color harmony? All these problems are addressed in John’s workbook in clear and concise language!
Based on the bestselling “Limited Palatte, Unlimited Color” workbook written by John Pototschnik, the workshop is run by Maggie Shane and Annie McCoy, accomplished landscape (acrylic) and plein air (oil) artists, exhibitors at the Big Sky Artists’ Studio & Gallery and members of the Big Sky Artists Collective.
Each student will receive a copy of “Limited Palette, Unlimited Color” to keep and take home to continue your limited palette journey. We will show you how to use the color wheel and mix your own clean mixtures to successfully create a mood for your paintings.
Each day, we will create a different limited palette color chart and paint a version of a simple landscape using John’s directives. You will then be able to go home and paint more schemes using the book for guidance.
Workshop is open to painters (oil or acrylic) of any level although students must have some basic knowledge of the medium he or she uses. Students will be provided the book ($92 value), color wheel, value scale and canvas papers to complete the daily exercises.
