Ever get tired of your bear spray dangling off a carabiner on your pack’s waistbelt, or worse, losing it out of the neoprene carrying sleeve?

The Jackson, Wyo.-based Scat Belt has a solution.

“A bear isn’t going to wait for you to dig your spray out from the bottom of your backpack,” said company founder, Jeff Rambo. “I learned that the hard way while mountain biking in the Jackson Hole backcountry, and fortunately got away with just a scare. But the feeling stuck, and I really counted myself lucky. That experience is what inspired us to develop the Scat Belt.”

Born that day in the Wyoming backcountry, Scat Belt is built to allow easy access to bear spray for hikers, cyclists, trail runners, climbers, campers, fishermen and anyone spending time actively exploring in bear or mountain lion country.

To date, Scat belts are available in three versions, two sizes and a variety of colors. They are lightweight and comfortable, with a secure no-bounce design that is ready to go anywhere.

“This belt could make all the difference, but it only works if you have it on,” Rambo said, adding that’s why the belt is designed so it’s easy to wear and will fit comfortably below a day pack or hydration pack.

Already, Scat Belt has been well-received by shops including Skinny Skis and Wilson Backcountry Sports in the Jackson Hole Valley, national retailers like Bass Pro Shop and National Outdoor Leadership Schools, as well as the National Park Service.

Scat Belt is available online and in select stores throughout Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Alaska, Alberta and British Columbia. They are also available in retail stores and visitor centers throughout the national parks, including Teton, Yellowstone and Glacier.
