GALLATIN ROLLER GIRLZ
Have you been to a recent Gallatin Roller Girlz bout and thought, “Hey, I could do that!” Now’s your chance to join the squad.
Following the success of the inaugural Fresh Meat Camp this past winter, Gallatin Roller Girlz is inviting interested skaters to attend the Summer 2014 Fresh Meat (i.e. new skater) Boot Camp. This eight-week program runs from Aug. 4 – Oct. 2, and skaters must be 18 or older to join.
Gallatin Roller Girlz created the Fresh Meat Camp in an effort to better support new skaters as they embark on the roller derby journey. A ground-level curriculum, the Fresh Meat Camp is designed to bring up and graduate a full class of skaters into contact-level skating.
During the camp, the Girlz will teach a full curriculum of basic skills followed by the Snowflake Assessment, which qualifies students as contact-rated skaters. Skaters will then be enrolled in another eight-week program that teaches the finer nuances of the sport including blocking and strategy.
Gallatin Roller Girlz offers Fresh Meat Camps twice yearly during the ‘shoulder seasons’ –late summer/early fall and again after Jan. 1.
All new skaters must graduate from a Fresh Meat Camp in order to skate with the league, with the exception of preexisting contact-rated transfer skaters from other leagues. “Try before you buy” gear will be available on a first come, first served basis.
Visit grgderby.com and like the Girlz on Facebook for more information.

Event Details
My Barking Dog is a nightmare comedy that tells the story of Toby and Melinda, two lonely people whose lives are forever changed the night they encounter a starving coyote at their apartment building. Over time they grow to expect him, leaving ritual offerings to entice the coyote every night. Toby and Melinda forge a connection over this visitor and share curiosity and concern about his presence in the city. The coyote expands their world–until, one night, their world is shattered. Their lives are pushed suddenly into uncharted territory, sending them on a surreal odyssey that changes their city–and the world–forever.
