The Lone Peak High School Lady Bighorns showed great effort on Friday, Oct. 7 at their home game verse Manhattan Christian. Although the end result was not what they had hoped, “We’re definitely learning to handle the game,” Coach Sarah Phelps said.

The gym, crowded with friends and family members of both teams, heated up toward the end of three games, all of which MC won.

Manhattan Christian is “the toughest team in the league” right now, said Phelps after the game. But, “playing experienced teams makes us better.” This is the first year playing volleyball for most of the girls on the team, Phelps said.

Although this was a challenging game for Lady Bighorns, the team is “definitely getting a handle on the game,” Phelps said. The girls showed strength in returning serves, and playing good defense.

Highlights included plays by freshman and middle blocker Teya Brahn, who led the Bighorns in blocks, and Aleysha Drum, also a freshman, who excelled as the outside hitter of the evening, gaining a lot more looks at the ball.

Cheer on the Lady Bighorns at their next match down the road at West Yellowstone on Friday, Oct. 14 at 5:30 p.m.
