It might be hard to believe that a little bit of upper lip fur could make an
impact on men’s health worldwide. One group out of Australia would
vehemently disagree.
Because of high rates of cancer developing in men—1 in 6 U.S. men
will develop prostate cancer—a group in 2003 created Movember, or
Mustache November.
The idea is simple: Keep the razor and shaving cream hidden in the cabinet;
don’t shave; generate awareness surrounding high rates of cancer in
men.
The group’s participation has skyrocketed from 30 members in 2003 to
about 450,000 in 2010. Movember has also generated more than $100
million (Aussie dollars), which is donated to cancer researches and
causes like Livestrong.
Check out some of these statistics and consider cultivating a little facial
hair in the name of men’s health.
