Ophir football routs Lima, 40-20

Miners keeps winning streak alive

It was a beautiful afternoon in Big Sky as the Ophir Miners Middle School Football team took on the Lima Bears last Friday, September 30th, at home amidst an energetic crowd.

Big Sky vaulted to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter with touchdowns scored by sixth grade players Rhett Leuzinger and Holden Samuels.

Lima came roaring back, scoring a touchdown of its own to make the score 14-6. The Bears scored 20 points overall, but the Miners held on for the victory, tacking on 26 more points to beat the Bears 40-20.

Led by its only eighth grade player, Chase Samuels scored two touchdowns and three extra points, and made three huge sacks and a fumble recovery.

Other key stats from the game: Bridger Babcock, one touchdown and an onside kick recovery, six tackles; Rhett Leuzinger, two touchdowns; Holden Samuels, one touchdown, one extra point, and a 47-yard run; Eddie Starz, 10 tackles.

The Miners play West Yellowstone at home Monday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m. on Big Horn Field.
