Rarely does getting shut out seem like a positive occurrence.
Yet after losing 25–0 to Twin Bridges last Wednesday, the Ophir School Miners football team has plenty to cheer about.
The 25-point win was Twin Bridges’ smallest this season. And the 25-player team, which usually competes in the 8-man middle school league, is playing big fish in a small pond this season.
The Miners showed strong signs of fight during most of the first half, keeping the score at 6–0. Twin Bridges scored late in the second quarter, however, and pulled ahead by another touchdown.
It may be the ability to recognize strong points in a grim defeat, or perhaps the fact that a few Twin Bridges players stand over six-feet tall, but the Miners kept their heads up after last Wednesday’s game.
The team is now 1–1 in its first season and plays again Friday, Sept. 30 against Lima at 4:00 p.m. at home.
