A $35,000 grant is being awarded to the Gallatin Valley Land Trust for expansion and improvements on the Main Street to the Mountains Trail system, which is over 60 miles in length and continues to grow and link neighborhoods, City parks and rural subdivisions. This is a bike, pedestrian and ski trail that provides incredible opportunities for exercise and enjoyment within and outside the City of Bozeman.

The ceremony is Wednesday, March 9 at 11 a.m. Meet at the south parking lot of the Gallatin County Regional Park. The park is on Oak Street, west of Davis, in Bozeman (Bad weather location: Fire Station off Davis Lane, directly east of the Regional Park).

The Recreational Trails Program (RTP) is a federal program funded through the Transportation Bill from the U.S. Congress, administered by Montana State Parks with oversight from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Eligible grant applicants include federal, state, county or municipal agencies, private associations and clubs. RTP provides grants for projects such as:
o Safety and ethics education
o Urban trail linkages near homes and work places
o Maintenance of front-country and back-country trails
o Trail-related weed control
o Restoration of areas damaged by trail use
o Development of trailhead facilities

Since 1993, RTP has funded 645 projects in Montana with over $11 million.

Since its founding in 1990, Gallatin Valley Land Trust has helped create over 60 miles of trail on the Main Street to the Mountains system. This is the sixteenth Recreational Trails Program grant awarded to Gallatin Valley Land Trust.
