GoldenSkate detonates at Gallatin County Fairgrounds on Aug. 23
GALLATIN ROLLER GIRLZ
What do James Bond and roller derby have in common?
Come find out at GoldenSkate, a James Bond/espionage-themed roller derby bout on Saturday, Aug. 23, which pits the Gallatin Roller Girlz against the Hellgate Roller Girls from Missoula for the first time.
This family-friendly event features food vendors, a no-host bar by the Zebra Cocktail Lounge, music by DJ Bones, the National Anthem performed by Bells of the Bridgers, and halftime entertainment by Infusion Belly Dance. As always, there will be games and prizes including the “Best Seat in the House” raffle and a chance to win an Adirondack ski chair.
A portion of proceeds from GoldenSkate will benefit Reach, Inc., the Bozeman-based nonprofit serving adults with disabilities.
GoldenSkate takes place at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds’ Haynes Pavilion. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the bout begins at 7:30 p.m. Advanced tickets are available at tart in the Emerson Center, Cactus Records, and online at grgderby.com.
The Gallatin Roller Girlz, a 501(c)(3) federal nonprofit, achieved Women’s Flat Track Derby Association apprenticeship designation this January and are currently working to achieve full WFTDA membership, allowing for ranking at the national and international level.

Interested in getting involved with the Gallatin Roller Girlz as a league skater or referee? Join the Girlz for an eight-week Fresh Meat (i.e. New Skater) Boot Camp. Enrollment takes place from Aug. 4-14. Learn how to skate, fall and safely maneuver on your skates at this non-contact camp.
Graduates of the Fresh Meat Camp are eligible to continue on to the eight-week Derby 101 camp where skaters learn contact skills and strategy. Skaters must attend the full 16-week combo and graduate successfully to be eligible to be a league contact skater.

We all are familiar with using a limited palette, but do you use one? Do you know how to use a limited palette to create different color combinations? Are you tired of carrying around 15-20 different tubes when you paint plein air? Have you ever wanted to create a certain “mood” in a painting but failed? Do you create a lot of mud? Do you struggle to achieve color harmony? All these problems are addressed in John’s workbook in clear and concise language!
Based on the bestselling “Limited Palatte, Unlimited Color” workbook written by John Pototschnik, the workshop is run by Maggie Shane and Annie McCoy, accomplished landscape (acrylic) and plein air (oil) artists, exhibitors at the Big Sky Artists’ Studio & Gallery and members of the Big Sky Artists Collective.
Each student will receive a copy of “Limited Palette, Unlimited Color” to keep and take home to continue your limited palette journey. We will show you how to use the color wheel and mix your own clean mixtures to successfully create a mood for your paintings.
Each day, we will create a different limited palette color chart and paint a version of a simple landscape using John’s directives. You will then be able to go home and paint more schemes using the book for guidance.
Workshop is open to painters (oil or acrylic) of any level although students must have some basic knowledge of the medium he or she uses. Students will be provided the book ($92 value), color wheel, value scale and canvas papers to complete the daily exercises.

Noon until 6PM.
$170.
