Arête Skis

Featured Ski: Durasurf 4001 base; CD Waelzholz 2mm steel edges; maple and poplar core custom shaped for your weight, height and skiing style; Pau Ferro Brazilian rosewood top sheet.

When it comes to buying new skis there are a lot of factors that you want to consider. Bozeman-based Arête Skis simplifies the process. They will build a custom ski, from scratch, that is tailored to your every need and specification.

You can work with the folks at Arête whether you’re in town or on the other side of the country. The process begins with several phone screenings for their team to get a general idea of what you are looking for in a ski. Meanwhile, they will be asking you refined questions to help them craft the perfect ski for you.

Arête will keep you involved in every step of the process—from graphic design to the day they lay your skis up in their custom-built press. When it comes to styling your skis there are several options. You can work with their graphics expert who can turn any design you want into a ski graphic. They also offer a variety of pure wooden veneers for those inclined toward a more old school feel.

During the building of your ski, never once will you hear “no” or “we can’t.” This company focuses on giving their client exactly what they want no matter the request—even if it means dismantling their equipment and rebuilding it to make your dream come true. And when design and production are complete, the relationship does not end there. Every pair of Arête skis comes with a custom hand tune to your skiing style, and a hand wax to the correct temperature.

Jamie Crowley and Brad Trotter are masters of their craft who have taken ski-building to the next level. They closely analyze every step of the construction process to ensure there is not a single mistake in any ski. If there is, they begin all over again. It’s because of this dedication to their art that they say they have never had a customer who wasn’t 100 percent satisfied with their brand new custom built skis, but if that ever does happen their promise is simple—they will replace the skis until they get it right.
