On Saturday, Nov. 1, adult runners from across the state will descend on Bozeman for the 32nd annual Montana Cup, a 5-kilometer cross-country race pitting the state’s largest towns against each other in a team-based format.
Held in Helena last year, the race location rotates between its seven team regions: Billings, Bozeman, Butte, Great Falls, Helena, Missoula and Kalispell. This year, Bozeman will host the Montana Cup for the first time since 2016. The volunteer-led event will take place at Gallatin County Regional Park, with men running at noon and women following at 1 p.m.
Registration is $30 and open to the public, but closes Friday, Oct. 31 at noon. Team jerseys are available on race day, and the 5K course map and other details are available online.
“I am so excited that the Montana Cup is back in Bozeman and we are expecting some amazing 60 degree weather on Saturday,” Race Director Leigh Holleman stated in an email to EBS. “We are expecting a final count of around 200 amazing athletes and over 20 amazing volunteers from all over Montana.”
In 2024, Missoula won the mens category with a score of 43 points, beating out Bozeman’s 52 points and Helena’s 58 points—scores are the sum of a team’s top seven finishers’ position in the race. Bozeman topped the womens category with 40 points, beating out Kalispell’s 49 points and Butte’s 77 points. More historic results are available online.
