Virginia City Chamber seeks public input on fireworks alternatives

The Virginia City Chamber of Commerce is requesting community feedback as it evaluates alternatives to traditional fireworks displays amid ongoing weather concerns and fire safety considerations.

“In addition to promoting economic growth in our community, it is also up to us to protect the historic character, businesses, residents and surrounding landscape of Virginia City,” stated a Feb. 18 social media post. “As a town with significant wooden structures and a unique historic footprint, fire safety is essential to preserving both our heritage and our future.”

Chamber officials said that they are working in coordination with the Virginia City Fire Department to assess celebration options that prioritize public safety while continuing to support local businesses and tourism. Among the alternatives under consideration is a community drone light show.

“Together, we are committed to creating memorable experiences that honor tradition while embracing responsible and forward-thinking solutions that keep Virginia City safe and thriving,” the post concluded.

Community members are encouraged to share their input by emailing info@virginiacity.com no later than March 9.
