Child cyclist killed in Bozeman crash

A 9-year-old girl died the morning of Wednesday, June 17, after being struck by a vehicle while riding her bicycle on Griffin Drive in Bozeman.

The crash occurred around 10:52 a.m. in the 300 block of East Griffin Drive, just west of North Rouse Avenue. According to a press release from the Bozeman Police Department, who is handling the investigation, the girl was riding westbound on the south side of Griffin Drive when she turned abruptly northbound across the road into the path of an oncoming vehicle. The driver stopped immediately and is cooperating with investigators, as did several who witnessed the accident.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share this update,” Bozeman Police Chief Jim Veltkamp stated in the release. “The loss of a child is a tragedy. Our deepest condolences go out to the friends, family, and truly the entire community, as we are all impacted by this loss.”
