By Kathy House BIG SKY COMMUNITY LIBRARY

BIG SKY – The Friends of the Library will be hosting a visit from award-winning author, Gary Ferguson on Tuesday, July 23 at 7 p.m. in the Big Sky Community Library. The program is free and open to the public.

There are few more engaging American stories than the tale of how wild lands have helped shape our nation’s sense of cultural identity. As part of the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act, passed in 1964, Ferguson will present a program celebrating this precious, dynamic relationship between Americans and their wild landscapes. Rich in history, science, and storytelling, the evening will offer the chance to explore not only a remarkable slice of history, but the potential that wild places still hold for inspiring and shaping us in modern times.

Ferguson is the author of 20 books on nature, science and history. He has served as a keynote speaker for a variety of regional and national wilderness and conservation groups, including the Land Trust Alliance, the Outdoor Industry Association and the Greater Yellowstone Foundation. Ferguson is a presenter for the National Geographic Speakers Series, and his commentaries can be heard on National Public Radio affiliates throughout the United States.

He will also discuss the book he is currently completing called The Carry Home, a nature-driven memoir chronicling life with his late wife, Jane, and their journeys through the American wild. For more information about Gary, visit his website at wildwords.net.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Refreshments will be provided.
