On Tuesday, Nov. 11, the Gallatin County Coroner’s Office and Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office investigated a fatal workplace accident that occurred on a commercial condo project on a construction site within the Yellowstone Club.
The victim, identified as 27-year-old Chance Dutcher of Bozeman, “was unloading a pallet of sheetrock from a truck utilizing an integrated crane when the pallet fell off the crane and onto [Dutcher],” a Nov. 13 press release from Gallatin County stated. He was pronounced dead at the scene resulting from blunt force injuries, and the investigation found the cause of death to be accidental.
“On Tuesday morning, we became aware that a construction subcontractor was involved in a fatal accident while working on property,” Brian Ashe, VP of Yellowstone Club development told EBS in an email. “We extend our deepest condolences to the individual, his family and his loved ones. Our hearts are heavy as we grieve the passing of a member of the community.”
According to the Yellowstone Club, the general contractor on the project is a national company with high safety procedures and protocol.
In a Gallatin County press release, Sheriff Dan Springer expressed his “deepest condolences” to the family, coworkers and friends of Chance Dutcher.
