A new law in Montana will shorten the timeframe for filing as a municipal candidate to three weeks, between May 27 and June 11. The previous filing period was April 17 to June 16. Bozeman, Belgrade, Manhattan, Three Forks and West Yellowstone will elect city commissioners and councils on Nov. 4.
Interested candidates must file for available seats between May 27 and June 11. Forms for candidacy are online and can be submitted to the Gallatin County Elections Office in person or by mail by 5 p.m. on June 11. Postmarks will not be submitted.
A Gallatin County press release noted that candidates who have already filed under the original filing window are still accepted and are valid under the new law, meaning they do not need to refile.
