Cora Neumann, a rural health professional of Bozeman, announced Thursday she is running for a state Senate seat.

“Job number one is protecting the Bozeman that we know and love, and making sure it’s a place where families can afford to stay and thrive,” Neumann said in a statement announcing her campaign.

Neumann lost the 2022 Democratic primary to run for the western U.S. House of Representatives district in Montana to Monica Tranel. Republican U.S. Rep. Ryan Zinke holds the seat.

Neumann’s announcement said she has “spent her entire career delivering results for underserved and rural communities, improving access to health care, and protecting our public lands.”

Neumann was the only candidate who had filed for the Senate District 30 seat as of Thursday, according to filings with the Montana Secretary of State’s Office.

(Sen. John Esp, a Republican from Big Timber who formerly represented SD 30, will remain in the Senate, said a spokesperson for Senate Republicans; district numbers changed during redistricting last year and he’s now in 29.)

Neumann currently serves as the chief community health officer for the Native American Development Corporation. Her priorities include making sure Montanans have access to good jobs and wages, protecting lands and waterways, and addressing rising property taxes.

She lives in her district with her husband and two teenage children.
