Gear review: Patagonia Simple Guide Pants

By Emily Stifler Explorebigsky.com Managing Editor

I’ve been through three iterations of Guide Pants. The second, a four-year-old pair of Alpine Guides, kept me almost completely dry while I hung on a rope in a snow and rain storm this spring. Lighter weight and with a loose fit, the Simple Guides ($99) are made from a breathable, water repellent, quick-dry soft shell—ideal for summer alpine climbing or fall backpacking trips. The partial elastic waistband is just what I’ve always wanted, I can rest easy knowing they’re Bluesign approved. Other features include a zipper fly, and hand, cargo and back pockets. Take note: they run a big large, and they stretch.
