The U.S. Department of Justice in Wyoming determined that Pierce Brosnan of Malibu, California must pay a $500 fine and $1000 in community service to the Yellowstone Forever Geological Fund as well as legislative fees totaling $40. According to a release from DJW, Brosnan pleaded guilty to foot travel in a thermal area.
One could say the public has a Golden Eye for thermal feature violators. “According to court documents, on or about Nov. 1, 2023, Brosnan uploaded pictures to his Instagram page of himself standing on a Yellowstone National Park thermal feature at Mammoth Hot Springs,” the release stated.
Signs in the area guide visitors toward viewing platforms and boardwalks to prevent accidents and destruction of ecological health in the hot springs.
“The National Park Service (NPS) reminds Yellowstone visitors that the ground in thermal areas is fragile and thin, and scalding water is just below the surface. Therefore, trespassing on thermal features is dangerous and can harm delicate natural resources within the park,” the release stated.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office originally asked the court for a sentence of two years of probation and set the maximum fine at $5,000. U.S. Magistrate Judge Stephanie A. Hambrick improsed the total $1,540 of fines and community service on March 14 in Mammoth, Wyoming.
