Montana students honored at MSU's Day of Student Recognition

46 students were honored this spring during Montana State University’s 88th Day of Student Recognition. Kristi Knaub, of Big Sky, received the Alpha Lambda Delta Individual Senior Award for the full-time senior having the highest grade point average based on credits carried at MSU. The students, their majors, home towns, awards and parents are:

Belgrade
Kiera McNelis, a junior in chemical engineering, received the Roskie Memorial Award. The award goes to one undergraduate student who has shown outstanding leadership qualities. McNelis is a member of Engineers Without Borders and will travel to Kenya this summer as a project manager for EWB. McNelis’ parents are Kevin and Marilyn McNelis.

Big Sky
Kristi Knaub, senior in elementary education, received the Alpha Lambda Delta Individual Senior Award for the full-time senior having the highest grade point average based on credits carried at MSU. She is the president of the Student Montana Educator’s Association, won the 2010 Award for Excellence, and won the 2010 Sommerfeld Teacher of Promise Award. Her parents are J.C. and Marjorie Knaub.

Billings/Columbus
Kiah Marie Abbey, a sophomore majoring in anthropology with a leadership certificate, received the Outstanding Sophomore Award for leadership and service to MSU. She is the president of NECO, an educator for The Voice Center, and the president of Sustained Dialogue. Her parents are Hans and Deborah Abbey.

Bozeman
Michael Fox, junior majoring in dietetics, received the Earlene Hart Memorial Scholarship. Fox’s parents are Rita and Larry Fox.

Butte
Kally Lowney, who graduated in studied family and consumer science education, won the Exceptional Student Award. She was a member of the Phi Upsilon Omicron Honor Society, the Montana Student Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, and is a CAP Mentor. Her parents are Linda and Dennis Lowney.

Chinook
Brittany MacLean, junior in exercise science, was inducted into Septemviri. The senior honorary recognizes seven outstanding juniors based upon extraordinary scholarship, leadership and service to MSU. She is the vice president of the Exercise Science Club, the vice president of Mortar Board, and a member of Alpha Lambda Delta. MacLean’s parents are William and Jo Ellen MacLean.

Choteau
Kelly Jones, junior in art education, received the Lawrence Hiller Scholarship. Jones’ parents are John and Kathy Jones.

Columbia Falls
Thomas Wright, junior in biochemistry, received the Alpha Lambda Delta Individual Junior Award. This award goes to the full-time junior having the highest grade point average based on credits carried at MSU. Wright is a member of the MSU Jazz Ensemble, a Phi Kappa Phi most outstanding junior award recipient, and an Eagle Mount volunteer. Wright’s parents are Steve and Kathy Wright.

Conrad
Kelsey Zomer, sophomore in nursing, received the Alpha Lambda Delta Individual Sophomore Award. This award goes to the full-time sophomore having the highest grade point average based on credits carried at MSU. Zomer is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and a participant in the Relay for Life. Zomer’s parents are Hank and Roxy Zomer.

Darby
Shelby Rogala, junior in history and philosophy, was inducted into Septemviri. The senior honorary recognizes seven outstanding juniors based upon extraordinary scholarship, leadership and service to MSU. She also received the Outstanding Junior Award. This award is based upon leadership and service to MSU. In addition, Rogala won the Christy Foundation Scholarship. This is awarded to students bringing special recognition to MSU based upon meritorious community leadership and service. Rogala is the president of the Philosophy Society, the vice president of NECO, and a member of the Ethicats Debate Team. Rogala’s parents are Mark and Deborah Rogala.

Glasgow
Melissa Dale, senior in computer science and Spanish, received the Herrick Award presented to a senior woman for outstanding leadership, scholarship and contributions to MSU. Dale is the president of the Association for Women in Computing, an Engineering Ambassador, and an intern at Right Now Technologies. Dale’s parents are Mike and Nancy Dale.

Hamilton
Laura Moran, senior in chemical engineering, received the Mollie Allen Strand Award that is given to a senior woman who exemplifies leadership, responsibility and concern for others. Moran is the president of the Queer Straight Alliance, a volunteer with Eagle Mount Swim and Ski program, and a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Society. Moran’s parents are Dr. Michael Moran and Theresa Moran.

Helena
Tom Brown, senior majoring in mechanical engineering, received the Max Worthington Service Award presented to a senior man whose service to MSU has exemplified high scholarship, values and concern for others.. Brown is a member of Engineers Without Borders, Engineering Ambassadors, and a volunteer with Eagle Mount. Brown’s parents are Greg and Lynette Brown.

Joseph Steffens, senior in cell biology and neuroscience and chemistry, received the Max Worthington Service Award presented to a senior man whose service to MSU has exemplified high scholarship, values and concern for others. Steffens is a member of ASMSU, a recipient of the Farland Alma Baker Award, and a recipient of the INBRE Undergraduate Research Stipend Award. Steffens’ parents are Joe and Susan Steffens.

Joliet
Loribeth Evertz, senior in mechanical engineering, received the Geoff Gamble Leadership Award that recognizes an outstanding woman who leads with optimism, integrity and vision. Evertz is a member of Engineers Without Borders, Tau Beta Pi Honor Society, a recipient of an Award for Excellence and a 2010 Goldwater Scholarship, a national scholarship for students who excel in science and math. Evertz’ parents are Gary and Elaine Evertz.

Livingston
Hilary Fabich, senior in chemical engineering, received the Ethelyn C. Harrison Award presented to a senior woman who exemplifies high standards and concern for others. Fabich is a member of Engineers Without Borders, the MSU Symphony Orchestra, and has been an undergraduate researcher in the Magnetic Resonance Microscopy Lab for more than three years. Fabich’s parents are Hank and Adrienne Fabich.

Molt
Kailyn Dorhauer, senior in health and human performance, received the Erma Lessel Collins Senior Award given to a senior woman based on leadership, scholarship and contributions to MSU. Dorhauer is the president of the Exercise Science Club, a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, and a Leadership Fellows Certificate recipient. Dorhauer’s parents are Alan and Jamie Dorhauer.
