Today, Jan. 2, fans adorned in blue and gold waited outside the stadium to cheer on the Montana State University football team as they began their journey to Frisco, Texas, where they will compete against North Dakota State University for the title of FCS National Champions.

Long time fan Sandy Birrell stood outside wearing her bobcats gear and ringing her cowbell.

“They’ve had a perfect season,” she said, excitement palpable in her voice. “We have every confidence for them in Frisco.” Birrell departs early Saturday morning to attend the Monday game.

More families, students and alumni lined the streets of Kagy Boulevard and South 19th Avenue to cheer on the players as the buses drove by. Children cheered, waving flags and pom poms to show their support.

Tammi White attended the send-off with her daughter and grandchildren. White is bringing her father to the game in Texas as an early 80th birthday gift.

“It is going to be great,” she said with a smile.

In addition to fans, MSU’s Spirit of the West marching band will be in attendance in Frisco after successfully meeting their fundraising goal to help cover travel expenses.

The game kicks off at 5 p.m. on Jan. 6. For those unable to attend, MSU alumni have organized watch parties across the country. EBS’s Senior Editor Jack Reaney will be  reporting live from Frisco; follow our Instagram and Facebook accounts for real-time updates.
