On Aug. 27, a 21-year-old Bozeman male was found dead near Granite Peak in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness.
On Aug. 24, at approximately 7:40 p.m., Stillwater County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a report of an overdue hiker in the area of Granite Peak, explained an Aug. 27 news release from the Park County Sheriff’s Office. Due to the proximity of the search being near three county lines, numerous agencies and resources responded.
Crews searched for the 21-year-old Bozeman male since the report was taken and located him at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Aug. 27.
According to an announcement by the Park County Sheriff’s Office, he was deceased when he was located from an apparent fall. An autopsy will be performed and Park County will be conducting the coroner investigation.
The following agencies were involved in the search: Stillwater County Sheriff’s Office/Search and Rescue, Carbon County/Red Lodge Fire/Search and Rescue, Park County (Montana) Sheriff’s Office/Search and Rescue, Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office/Search and Rescue, Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office, Park County (Wyoming) Sheriff’s Office/Search and Rescue, Big Horn County (Wyoming) Sheriff’s Office/Search and Rescue, Montana Army National Guard, US Air Force, Central Copters (through Gallatin County).
“Thank you to all of these agencies and responders for their assistance in the search,” Park County Sheriff Tad Dykstra stated in the release. “And a special thank you to Stillwater County Sheriff Kem and Chief Deputy Williams for their outstanding leadership.”
