Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and guitarist Madison Cunningham will grace the stage at the Warren Miller Performing Arts Center on Aug. 30, a “huge get,” according to Executive Director John Zirkle.
Cunningham won the 2023 Grammy for Best Folk Album for “Revealer” and has drawn praise from artists including John Mayer, Andrew Bird, Mumford & Sons, Hozier, Lucy Dacus and Molly Tuttle. Her latest album, “Ace,” puts piano at the forefront in some of her most personal work yet. She was also the only featured guest artist on Mumford & Sons’ 2025 album “Rushmere,” co-writing, singing and playing guitar on “Blood On The Page.”
“[Cunningham is] the greatest guitar player that nobody’s heard of,” said Rikka Wommack, communications manager at WMPAC. “She’s such a powerhouse and doesn’t quite have the national pull of the people she works with, which is crazy.”
Wommack said many who have worked with Cunningham call her “an artist’s artist,” and that attendees can expect a high level of craft in her instrumentals, her songwriting and her performance.
“She is a truly singular talent in both songwriting and musicianship,” Wommack said.
With rain in the forecast for much of the weekend, a show at WMPAC feels like a cozy alternative, added Wommack. Opening the night is local singer-songwriter Kylie Spence.
WMPAC is wrapping up their summer season with Cunningham’s show, followed by a performance by pianist Philip Daniel as a part of the Lone Peak Film Festival on Sept. 16. They will release their winter lineup in October.
“We have some really exciting shows coming up,” Wommack said of their upcoming winter season.
