On Monday, Oct. 6, Williams Academy in Belgrade hosted more than 280 Belgrade Middle School students for its annual Manufacturing Day, a hands-on exploration in the skilled trades.

Gov. Greg Gianforte attended the event, speaking with students and instructors about the “critical role” that trades education plays in Montana’s workforce development and economy, according to a Williams Academy press release.

“We’ve made expanding trades education in Montana schools a top priority to ensure the next generation is prepared for the jobs of tomorrow,” Gianforte said during the event, according to the release.

Students participated in interactive demonstrations, used simulation equipment, and talked with instructors and apprentices about pursuing careers in plumbing, HVAC and heavy equipment operation.

“This year’s Manufacturing Day was a resounding success,” Amanda Mills, learning and development manager at Williams Academy, stated in the release. “Having the Governor present reinforced for students and families that trades education is vital, respected, and a true pathway to opportunity.”

The academy, founded in 2024, provides accredited training programs with a focus on practical, debt-free education, according to the release.
