The Gallatin History Museum kicked off its spring programming and will continue with a Flower Pot Workshop scheduled for Sunday, April 26 at 1:30 p.m. The class will be led by volunteer artist Pat Hamlin and is open to participants ages 10 and older. Registration is required, with fees set at $15 for museum members and $20 for non-members; all materials are included.
In May, the museum continues its speaker series with a historical presentation titled “The Copper King in Gallatin County (or How Three Forks Almost Became a Smelter Town).” The talk will take place Wednesday, May 13, at 6 p.m., and feature local historian and author Brenda Wahler.
Wahler’s presentation will explore the influence of Marcus Daly and the Anaconda Copper Company, and how industrial expansion nearly brought a major smelting operation to Three Forks near the Missouri Headwaters. The talk highlights how Montana’s copper boom reshaped communities across the state, including in Gallatin County. A book signing for Wahler’s latest work will follow the event.
Founded in 1977 and housed in a historic county jail building, the Gallatin History Museum preserves and interprets the region’s past through exhibits, archives, and public programs focused on early settlement, agriculture and Montana’s mining era.
