The U.S. Forest Service will waive standard amenity recreation fees at all Forest Service sites on Saturday, June 6, in celebration of National Trails Day. The annual event highlights the importance of public trails while encouraging stewardship, volunteerism and outdoor recreation, according to a news release from the national forest. Across the country, volunteers and partner organizations contribute more than half of all trail maintenance work. In 2025, those efforts helped maintain nearly 26,000 miles of trails nationwide, according to the Forest Service.
Several volunteer projects and community events are planned throughout the Custer Gallatin National Forest on June 6, including the Silver Run Trail Realignment with Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness Foundation and Beartooth Trails, the Rendezvous Trail Day hosted by Rendezvous Ski Trails, the Moser Creek Trailhead Improvement Project with Friends of Hyalite, and the Little Trail Creek Trail Improvement project organized by the Gardiner Ranger District.
