Yellowstone offers free entry Fourth of July weekend

EBS STAFF

Yellowstone National Park will waive entrance fees for U.S. residents July 3-5 in honor of Independence Day. Visitors should expect heavy summer crowds, long lines at entrance stations and construction delays. Park staff urge guests to plan ahead: all campgrounds and lodging require reservations and book up quickly.

A national park press release reminded visitors that fireworks are strictly prohibited due to fire danger; even a spark can ignite a wildfire. Campfires are allowed only in designated fire rings and must be fully extinguished before leaving. The current fire danger in the park is moderate.

When viewing wildlife, visitors must stay at least 100 yards from bears, wolves and cougars, and 25 yards from all other animals. Stay on boardwalks in thermal areas to avoid serious injury. For the most up-to-date road conditions, visit go.nps.gov/YELLroads or text “82190” to 888-777 for mobile alerts.
