Last month, NorthWestern Energy released information about the possibility of public safety power shutoff events, when the utility company would shut power off to customers during forecasted extreme weather conditions that lead to high fire risk.

These extreme weather conditions include heat, low humidity, wind and dry vegetation. As fire danger increases this summer, NorthWestern Energy will assess the need for a power shutoff and should one become necessary, alert customers via phone call, email, social media, text and on their website, where they regularly update a power safety shutoff map.

While monitoring went into effect during a Red Flag Warning on July 23, a shutoff was not deemed necessary on July 24.

“As we do throughout the fire season, we will continue to monitor, analyze and assess wildfire conditions,” the website stated. “Our teams continually evaluate weather forecasts and environmental conditions that contribute to the threat of wildfires and reviewed multiple models this past week.”
