Amaltheia Dairy secures land partnership

When 160 acres of land went up for sale in close proximity to Amaltheia Dairy, a family-run farm in Gallatin Valley, the farm’s owners became worried about what it might mean for their future of agriculture production. Thanks to a partnership with Dirt Capital Partners, the farm, just outside of Belgrade, Amaltheia was able to purchase the land themselves, and subdivide it into four small residential lots, turning the remaining 149 acres into an agricultural easement with Gallatin Valley Land Trust.

Their partnership with Dirt Capital Partners–a regenerative land investment fund who work in partnership with farmers to find mutually beneficial solutions to land access for farmers–has already yielded positive results, explained Amaltheia owner Nathan Brown in a Dec. 30 newsletter.

Projects made possible include renovating a 120-year-old farmhouse, launching their U-pick flower, pumpkin and strawberry program, expanding their vegetable fields and implementing year-round soil-building practices.

“We are so grateful for this opportunity with Dirt Capital and they have been so amazing to work with,” said Brown in the newsletter. “To have land secured for the future generations of our Family Farm is monumental and takes so much worry and stress away from us.”

The subdivided lots are currently up for public sale, just east of their farm on Penwell Bridge Road.
