Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest sends initial attack firefighters to Shell Creek Fire

A fire near Ennis and west of Big Sky ignited last night in the Shell Creek area. According to a Facebook post from the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest fire officials inspected the area last night. 

On the morning of July 19, local initial attack firefighters were transported to the area and hiked to gain access to the fire, which is in a drainage in the Madison Range. Two additional helicopters flying out of the Big Sky Airport arrived for crew transport and water bucket drops.

As the initial crew gets to work, a secondary team remains on standby to assist in firefighting, if the need arises.

The Horse Gulch Fire near Helena continues to blaze acres of forest; according to Montana Fire Information, an organization partnered with the National Park Service and other land agencies. The fire is now 14,814 acres with 40% of the fire contained.
