Big Sky classical concert to highlight Montana’s cultural roots

EBS STAFF

Big Sky will be privy to a unique musical experience on Tuesday, April 7, when the Arts Council of Big Sky hosts a special performance at the Big Sky Center for the Arts. The classical show is a part of Baroque Music Montana’s Beyond Baroque Series, and takes on a local angle with its program, “Come From Away,” celebrating the diverse cultural backgrounds that have shaped Montana, from pre-statehood days to today.

Bozeman-based violinist Carrie Krause, concertmaster of the Bozeman Symphony, will perform alongside Julie Gosswiller, a professor at Montana State University. Both musicians are well known in the region’s classical music scene. The program reflects Montana’s immigrant heritage through an international selection of works, including pieces by Tan Dun, Johan Halvorsen, Paquito D’Rivera and Ernest Bloch. The centerpiece is a violin sonata by Georges Enescu, known for blending folk traditions with classical technique.
