New school to follow Montessori-based curriculum
BIG SKY DISCOVERY SCHOOL
Big Sky Discovery School is preparing to start this fall for the 2014-15 school year. The nonprofit, private elementary school will start teaching first, second and third grades this year and plans to expand through sixth grade for the 2015-16 school year.
The curriculum will be Montessori-based while adhering to the Common Core State Standards Initiative. The school has limited enrollment and as of July 23 has availability for seven more students.
“We absolutely love the educational approach developed by Dr. Maria Montessori and believe Big Sky will be served well with a private Montessori elementary program in our community,” said Scott Maybee, who plans to send his two children to Big Sky Discovery in the fall.
Taylor Wortman is leading the start up and administrative efforts, and will also be the lead teacher this fall. She comes with a wealth of experience and her education includes a master’s in education leadership and a bachelor’s in elementary education. Additionally, Wortman is licensed to teach grades k-8 in Montana, and is certified in Montessori elementary grades k-3.
