The Big Sky Fire Department responded to a structure fire on the evening of Friday, Nov. 21, after the department received a report of a chimney fire that had spread into the home’s structure.
When the first units arrived at the scene, they found active fire on the second floor, attic and gable ends of the home. Crews quickly began an “aggressive interior attack” to stop the fire from spreading, as well as to protect surrounding areas. No injuries of firefighters or residents were reported and BSFD brought the fire under control to contain damage. The official cause of the fire remains under investigation.
In a Nov. 22 press release, BSFD thanked its mutual aid partners, Yellowstone Mountain Club Rural Fire District, Bozeman Fire Department, Gallatin Gateway Fire Department, Central Valley Fire District, Hyalite Fire Department and the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Department for their support and response to the incident.
“The Big Sky Fire Department would like to remind our community members to have their chimneys inspected and cleaned annually, ensure smoke detectors are working, and always use caution with fireplaces and wood-burning appliances during the winter months,” the release stated.
