Big Sky Resort to host Easter sunrise service

As the sun rises on Easter Sunday, April 20, Big Sky Resort Ministries will host its annual on-mountain service at Big Sky Resort.

Starting at 7 a.m. atop Andesite Mountain, the celebration is free and open to the public, and lift tickets are not required, according to Chaplain Brad Lartigue. Pedestrians are welcome, though attendees are encouraged to ski or snowboard for the event.

Attendees can hop on Ramcharger 8 starting at 6:30 a.m., taking a short ride to the top of the unique venue where Lartigue, Assistant Chaplain Kameron Konklin, and Pastor Brian Van Eps will lead the service. The chairlift will stop loading at 6:55 a.m. to ensure the service remains on schedule.

“I think for me what’s special about it is, keeping a tradition that began when Boyne took over—from the very beginning in 1976, ‘77. So this is a service that’s been an annual thing, every year,” Lartigue told EBS in a phone call.

He’s been running services on the mountain in Big Sky for 35 years, since arriving in Big Sky in 1990.

“And I just kept the torch going, all these years,” he said. “… The other thing that makes it special for me is all the support, from the top of Big Sky Resort to the community here in Big Sky. They really support the efforts of keeping this tradition going.”
