University of Montana football head coach Bobby Hauck announced his retirement today, Feb. 4, wrapping his career with a 166-92 record across 19 college football seasons, and 151-43 in his 14 years coaching his alma mater, the Montana Grizzlies.
The Montana native is the winningest coach in Big Sky Conference history, and led the Griz to eight Big Sky championships, four national championship appearances, 20 FCS playoff wins and 13 playoff-eligible seasons, according to a news release by UM Athletics.
He completes a chapter as the 37th head coach in University of Montana football history, including numerous Coach of the Year awards among various tiers. He recently concluded a tenure as president of the American Football Coaches Association.
“Under Hauck, the Grizzlies achieved excellence both on the field and in the classroom,” the UM release stated. “Since his return to UM in 2018, Hauck’s Grizzlies posted the highest grade point averages in program history, averaging over a 3.0 GPA or better for 15-consecutive semesters. In that time the Griz have had a conference-high 243 Academic All-Big Sky honorees. A conference-high seven Grizzlies have also been named Academic All-American.”
Wide receivers coach Bobby Kennedy has been named head coach moving forward.
