The Bozeman Bike Kitchen is hosting its annual kids bike giveaway now through Dec. 22. The Bozeman-based nonprofit is a cooperative cycling hub with a mission of empowering and educating the Gallatin Valley by refurbishing bicycles and promoting safe cycling for transportation and recreation.
Each holiday season, Bike Kitchen staff prepare a fleet of kids bikes to give away free of charge to any child. Bikes range from wheel sizes of 12 to 24 inches, fitting kids roughly ages three to 10. The giveaway is limited to one bike per child and they will also receive a free helmet. With the growing demand for bikes each year, the Bike Kitchen is encouraging the community to donate their bikes, bike parts or monetary donations so they can continue this and other programs.
The Bike Kitchen is located at 2104A Industrial Drive, and open Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The public can visit during those hours to participate in the bike giveaway, shop for other bikes or parts, or fix an existing bike in need of repair.
