Blood donation rates typically fall during summer months while hospital need for blood rises, a pattern Bozeman Health and Vitalant have partnered to counter in Bozeman with two upcoming local blood drives.
Bozeman Health used more than 1,300 units of blood in 2025 for surgeries, cancer treatment, trauma care and other procedures. Summer trauma cases tied to outdoor recreation tend to increase that demand further, Heather Wicks, director of trauma and acute care services at Bozeman Health explained in a June 15 press release from the hospital.
“Every blood donation has the potential to save multiple lives,” Tori Robbins, communications manager for Vitalant, stated in the release. “When donors give with Vitalant, their blood can directly help patients in the Gallatin Valley, throughout Montana, or even across the nation. We are very thankful to Bozeman Health for hosting blood drives throughout the year to support their community and beyond.”
Donations can be made at Big Sky Medical Center on June 18 or Deaconess Regional Medical Center on June 26. Appointments for both events can be scheduled at vitalant.org. Donors who use code JUNEGIFT-2026-V when booking will receive a $15 gift card for any donation made in June.
