Bozeman Health welcomes new chief medical officer

Dr. Chris Spoja will be Bozeman Health’s new chief medical officer, starting on Jan. 2.A Nov. 2 press release from Bozeman Health announced that he will step into this role after most recently serving as chief medical officer of inpatient services at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings.

Dr. Spoja has also worked as regional medical director for sound physicians in Tacoma, Washington and chief hospitalist at St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Boise, Idaho. He also served as physician leader in the U.S. Army.

“In this role Dr. Spoja will lead Bozeman Health in facilitating clinical affairs with physician and
administrative leadership across the health system,” the release stated.

“I am excited to return to the Bozeman community, where my pre-med venture began at
Montana State University. I look forward to working with a very talented leadership team to
optimize delivery of health care to the Montana community, which consists of my own personal
friends and family,” Dr. Spoja stated in the release.

Dr. Spoja is from Helena and received a bachelor of science degree in health and human
performance at University of Montana, where he was a member of the UM basketball team. He earned his master’s degree in biomedical sciences from Midwestern University and a doctor of osteopath at Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine.

“Dr. Spoja provided strong leadership to our medical staff and caregivers as we emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic and embarked on our merger with Intermountain Health,” stated Bryan Johnson, interim president of St. Vincent Healthcare.

“We have a strong relationship with the team at Bozeman Health and look forward to continued collaboration as we strive to help people in the Gallatin Valley and across Montana live their healthiest lives possible,” Johnson stated in the release.
