On the winter solstice, Sunday, Dec. 21, Bozeman will host its annual Homeless Persons’ Memorial Vigil at the Bozeman Public Library’s outdoor pavilion at 5:30 p.m. to memorialize those who have experienced homelessness and passed away in 2025.

The annual event is always held on the longest night of the year to remember unhoused people and to call attention to homelessness. The public is encouraged to attend and dress warmly for the event.

“On average, the life expectancy of people who are homeless is about 28 years shorter than that of people who are housed,” Ben Nielsen, head of adult programming and outreach at Bozeman Public Library, stated in a press release. “This memorial service recognizes the harsh realities that people experiencing homelessness deal with and the impact that has on their lives and our community.”

The Homeless Persons’ Memorial Vigil is presented in partnership with Bozeman Public Library, Dahl Funeral and Cremation Services, Human Resource Development Council, and the Greater Yellowstone Threshold Singers. More info can be found on the library’s event page.
