Bozeman and Missoula police departments are partnering to provide extra public safety support for the FCS semifinal Cat-Griz playoff game this Saturday at Bobcat Stadium. Missoula Police Department officers will assist Bozeman Police with game-day operations for the 2 p.m. kickoff on Dec. 20, with both cities sharing the cost of additional staffing through a mutual aid agreement.

“There will be an increased law enforcement presence at the game and in the City of Bozeman this weekend,” Bozeman Police Chief Jim Veltkamp stated in a Dec. 18 press release. “Our goal is simply to ensure everyone stays safe. We know tensions may be high, but we ask everyone to stay respectful of each other. At the end of the day, this historic event is the culmination of an incredible year for both teams.”

Veltkamp said residents and visitors should expect an increased police presence and urged fans to keep the rivalry respectful as both teams compete in a historic playoff matchup.

Additionally, the police chief of the city whose team loses the game will have to wear the other team’s apparel at work the following week, according to the release which called it “a friendly wager.”
