Bozeman police arrested a man following a rollover crash and stabbing near Savannah Street and Davis Lane early Sunday morning.
On Aug. 30 at approximately 2:08 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call reporting the crash and stabbing. According to a Bozeman Police Department press release, the driver fled the scene on foot after crashing and stabbed a bystander who attempted to detain him. The bystander sustained several stab wounds and was treated at Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital. They are expected to survive.
With help from the bystander and other witnesses, patrol officers obtained a suspect description and detectives searched the surrounding area but did not locate the suspect. Several hours later, an on-duty Bozeman police sergeant found him near North 19th Avenue and Baxter Lane.
The suspect was taken into custody and faces charges of felony assault with a weapon, misdemeanor driving under the influence (second offense) and misdemeanor failure to give notice of an accident involving damage over $1,000. He appeared in Gallatin County Justice Court and is being held on $250,000 bond.
“Thank you to the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, Montana State University Police Department, Bozeman Fire Department and American Medical Response for their assistance during this investigation,” Bozeman Police Deputy Chief Joe Swanson said in the release.
