Briefs from the Region – Dec. 28, 2023

Bozeman’s Leverich Canyon trails #435 and #436 have reopened for public use after being closed due to equipment and helicopter operations used in the Bozeman Municipal Watershed Project. The BMW Fuels Reduction Project aims to reduce forest fuel loads along the Bozeman and Hyalite Creek watersheds, where the city gets 80% of its drinking water. The effort began in 2021 and is made possible through a partnership between the City of Bozeman and Custer Gallatin National Forest.

Additional work is expected after the new year, so recreationists—Leverich is a popular hiking and mountain biking trail—are encouraged to take advantage and explore the area while it remains open, as explained in a Facebook post by the Custer Gallatin National Forest.
