On Sunday, March 8 at approximately 4:18 p.m., Central Valley Fire District responded to a report of a horse that had fallen from a bridge into a creek near Airport Road in Belgrade, and was close to drowning.

An engine, a rescue unit and battalion chief were deployed to the scene, according to a social media post by the fire district. Firefighters also requested assistance from members of the regional large animal rescue team as well as veterinarians Amelie Kuglin, Chris Kimbrell and Jared Hardaway of Hardaway Veterinary Clinic.

Responders successfully removed the horse from the creek at approximately 4:55 p.m., about 40 minutes after the initial dispatch. The horse, named Dream, was evaluated by veterinarians at the scene and later transported to Hardaway Veterinary Clinic for additional care.

“Central Valley Fire District would like to thank the property owners, horse owners, veterinarians, and neighbors who assisted with the incident,”  the social media post stated. “Their quick actions and cooperation helped ensure a safe and successful outcome.

The post also encouraged anyone who encounters an animal trapped or in distress to contact emergency services rather than attempting a rescue themselves.
