Since February 2024, longtime City of Bozeman employee Chuck Winn has served as interim city manager after stepping in to fill the vacancy left by predecessor Jeff Mihelich, who resigned after a leaked video led to a scandal in January 2024.
Winn’s role as outright city manager began on Wednesday, May 14, after being appointed by the Bozeman City Commission.
“Chuck Winn stepped into the interim city manager role at the request of the commission and quickly earned the trust and respect of the City Commission, city staff and the community,” Bozeman Mayor Terry Cunningham stated in a May 7 press release.

“We’re thrilled that Chuck has agreed to serve as Bozeman’s next City Manager. We’re a dynamic community and this is an important time in our history. Having an experienced leader with deep roots in the community will serve us well as we collectively plan our future,” Cunningham stated.
Winn’s history with the City of Bozeman makes him the longest-tenured city employee, with past roles including his ascent from volunteer firefighter to Bozeman Fire Chief, and eventually assistant city manager before his appointment.
“Serving in the interim role has been an amazing privilege, and I am deeply honored to continue working for this city in a permanent capacity,” Winn stated in the release. “I remain committed to serving our community alongside our incredible staff.”
