Construction begins on West Kagy sewer project July 27

The City of Bozeman, with Williams Civil Construction and DOWL, begins Phase 1 of the West Kagy to Babcock Sewer Improvements project the week of July 27, according to a press release from the City of Bozeman. The project will replace the aging sewer pipelines along West Kagy Boulevard between South Tracy Avenue and South 7th Avenue. Work is expected to finish by November 2026.

Two-way traffic will be maintained on Kagy, but drivers should expect lane shifts, flaggers and full closures at South 3rd Avenue and South Tracy Avenue, at separate times, each with detours. Neighboring businesses will still be accessible.

“This is a critical project that improves and expands our sewer system in part to better handle the increasing student population we’re seeing at MSU,” said Emiliano Esparza, engineer for the City of Bozeman, in a press release. “We ask drivers to stay patient, safe, find alternate routes and stay focused on the improvements.”

Phase 2 has been postponed until MDT completes its separate Kagy Boulevard reconstruction, tentatively starting in 2027.
