Fairy Lake Road #74 remains closed to all uses as crews continue work on a major roadway improvement project, according to a news release from Custer Gallatin National Forest. Despite challenging weather in June, construction crews are making good progress, and the closure will stay in effect for public safety until critical project elements wrap up later in July.
The first 1.4 miles of the road remain open to the winter parking lot, though visitors should expect ongoing construction activity and occasional short delays in that section. There are no alternative vehicle routes to Fairy Lake during the closure. Hikers can still reach the lake via the Fairy Creek Trail #500 from the Battle Ridge Trailhead. The Forest Service is encouraging visitors to consider other nearby areas, including the Bridger Range, Hyalite drainage and the Gallatin River corridor, while the project continues.
Officials say the work aims to improve long-term safety and sustainable access to the popular destination. For project updates, visit fs.usda.gov/r01/custergallatin/alerts.
