Fire departments continue to manage Elk Creek Fire near Gallatin Gateway

Editor’s note: Explore Big Sky continues to monitor fire starts in the region and will update stories as current information becomes available.

Gallatin Gateway Fire Department responded to a fire start in the area of 17500 Norris Rd. on the evening of Aug. 16. As the fire grew, Amsterdam Rural Fire Department and Hyalite Rural Fire Department responded to the incident and crews continued to fight the fire into the night of Aug. 16.

This morning, the Amsterdam Rural Fire Department provided an update on fire’s status in a Facebook post. At 8 a.m. today, Aug. 17, the fire was around 257 acres in size.

Gallatin Gateway Fire Department provided its own update on Facebook at 2 p.m. today: “Crews are still on the Elk Creek Fire and working with allied agencies to get it under control. We still have crews within our district to answer any calls for service or needs from our community.”
