BIG SKY—Under the threat of rain, 24 volunteers set a new local record in the fight against noxious weeds along the Gallatin River this year, collecting 1,120 pounds of noxious weeds and trash.
The Gallatin/Big Sky Noxious Weed Committee in partnership with Madison-Gallatin Trout Unlimited hosted the fourth Annual Weed Pull and River Clean-Up on June 9.
Volunteers noticed fewer weeds this year, which is due to previous efforts, according to Gallatin/Big Sky Noxious Weed Committee coordinator Jennifer Mohler. However, a few patches of spotted knapweed were extremely healthy, something Mohler says highlights the fact that it takes multiple years of aggressive treatment to eliminate established noxious weed patches.
